OBJECTIVE: We investigated the relationship of factor VIIa with microalbuminuria and serum lipids to find out whether factor VlIa is an indicator of endothelial damage in patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
MATERIAL AND METHOD: We took into our sıudy total 44 patients aged between 4/ and 85 years who were being followed up at the Diabetic Clinic o/Şişli Etfal Hospital. Our control group was consisted of aged between 40 and 75 years total 22 people who had no health problem. We used the one step modified prothrombin time measuring method to measure the activation of Factor VII.
RESULTS: in nur control group wefound the median values of the parameters we measured as follows; prothromhin time 12.65±070 sec, prothrombin activity %92.89±7.00, aPTT 27.50±2.96 seı.: , fihrinogen 306.73±52.2 mgldl, Factor VIIa 64.16±27.66 mU!ml, microalbumin 13.09±8.01 mg/L, HbA!c %4.64±0.30 (Tablo 1 ). in our patient group the same parameters median resu/ts were respeı.: tively; PIT 12.52±0.65 seı: , PTA %94.71±6.17, aPTT 26.28±3.51 sec, Jıhrinogen 294.05±65.56 mgld/, Factor Vlla 59.9/ ±28.19 mU/ml, microalbumin 98.55±222.94 mg/L, HbAJc %6.97±2.18 (Tablo I ).
CONCLUSJON: As a result, although we couldn’t find a significant difference in factor Vlla levels between the control and the patient group, we condude that further sıudies must he carried out on larger groups of patients who would he selectted according to specific parameters such as diabetic regulation, existince of complications and serum lipid levels in order to observe whether there is an increase in the activity of tissue factor dependent factor VIIa as an indication of endothelial damage in the vascular complications of type il diabetes mellitus.

Pages 34 - 38
OBJECTIVE: Social Pediatrics Center due to its importance and the growing need for such center, has heen introduced to our hospital in February 1993. in our study we aim to present the activities and the results of the Social Pediatrics Center.
STUDY DESIGN: At the Center every child get filed at first admission. At each subsequent visit her/his growth and development are recorded information on alimentation and vaccination proper to his/her age is given in our study, daily records have been analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: During February 1993- December 1998 the number of new fi/es was 6564. 42486 cases benefited from education on alimentation and 58328 doses of vaccination were applied. Within the years the number of people receiving service by the center has increased indicating that the patients viewed the center favourably and that there is a growing need for such pediatrics centers.

Pages 39 - 43
AIM: To test the value of hemodynamic spectral parameters along with the histopathologic correlation in the differantiation of benign-malignant breast mases.
PATIENT AND METHOD: Color doppler sonography was performed to 67 patients and the data were acquired using a wide range of criteria. The reference malignancy value was based on the study of Hollerweer et al as the RI>80 and PSV>0.
RESULT: in 24 cases where fibroadenoma was detected, 8 cases (34%) showed.no vascularization. The avarege Rl value was found as 0.71 (0.63-0.80); standart deviation 0.06. in carsinoma cases, the RI values were recorded as between 0.55-0.99 (average 0.75; standart deviation 0.06). in 11 carsinoma cases (44%) Rl values were 80% or aho- ve. PSV values were recorded as between 13-45 mlsn (ave- rage 29 mlsn; standart deviation 0.08).
CONCLUSION: Breast malignancies have higher ressistance indices (RI) than benign lesions. When Rl and peak sistolic velocity (PSV) evaluated together it was shown that. it has the capacity or increasing the specificity of classification of breast masses.
